In this workshop, participants will learn how to effectively evaluate and train the shoulder girdle. This hands-on workshop will give pilates instructors the skills to assess the dynamic stability, global range of motion, flexibility and muscular strength of the shoulder region. The basic anatomy and common problems associated with this region will be reviewed to support a more evidence-based and knowledgeable approach to evaluation and training of the shoulder complex. Participants will have an opportunity to practice dynamic postural assessment techniques, global range of muscle, manual strength testing and segmental stability evaluation. Participants will learn appropriate pilates exercises and stretches to effectively improve stability, movement, flexibility and strength of the shoulder region.
Learning objectives:
• Review shoulder complex and understand associated problems
• Learn basic assessment skills
• Review postural analysis of shoulder complex and integrate dynamic postural assessment
• Learn and practice resistive strength tests
• Learn and practice corrective STOTT PILATES® exercises and some complimentary exercises
• Learn and practice corrective stretches
